The Leavers Coulson Trust
Attending a residential event with adventure activities, or a teaching and music festival, can be a life changing experience. LCT helps children and young people (7-19 years), whose families have limited means and come from disadvantaged social backgrounds, to attend Christian residential experiences.
Who are we?
The Leavers Coulson Trust is a partnership of two trusts: The Graham Leavers Memorial Trust, formed in 1979 and Philip’s Fund, set up in 2001.
What do we do?
In 40 plus years we have provided approximately £100,000 to help some 2,000 children and young people between the ages of 7 and 19, attend Christian residential events.
Why do we do it?
We believe that when youngsters from difficult and disadvantaged situations experience a completely new environment, often in rural settings and with challenging and creative activities, their eyes are opened to a wholly fresh perspective on their life and the world around them. If this is within a Christian context, where they are accepted and loved for who they are, we believe this can be a life changing experience.
Impact
Our experience is that children and young people who attend residential events begin to learn new skills, build self-confidence and grow in self-esteem. And of course, also, when the life affirming Christian message is explored and discussed — young lives can be transformed.
The trust makes grants to children and young people in need who are part of a Christian youth group. This ensures that those who benefit from the grants will receive continuing pastoral care.
